You don’t need more discipline. Trust me.

The reason you can’t stick to your goals isn’t because you’re not disciplined, lack dedication or need to be stricter.

But it’s because you’re not being realistic. You’re not meeting yourself where you’re at and you haven’t got self awareness.

Can you guess the question I ask every new VIP client before we start working together?

❌ “how much weight do you want to lose?”

❌ “do you want to PB your 5k run time?”

❌ “are you willing to give up life for this?”

The question, is “do you know what’s required to take you from where you are currently, to the goals you’ve said are meaningful and to you?”

Do you know what actions you’ll need to start prioritising? ✅

Or how your schedule might need to change to accommodate these new actions? ✅

Do you know the skills we might need to start working on? ✅

Or how we may need to start creating more balance- understanding the reasons behind our decisions? ✅

From here, we start to build awareness of our cost:benefit ratio. Weighing up how much these goals truly mean to you when you start to realise what will need to change from your current lifestyle.

Eek indeed Simon

You say you want to get stronger, build muscle, feel fitter; create a structured gym routine. But you’re career focussed, which takes up a lot of your time & mental energy. Or you say you want to lose body fat, change your body shape….but you’re stuck in a constant cycle of drinking yourself to a killer hangover every weekend because of your social butterfly identity?

To work towards that fitness goal, will mean your current work schedule needs to change to give you time. You might need to start meal prep to take into the office, rather than working through your lunch. Or going to bed at a decent time, rather than logging on late to check emails.

To work towards fat loss, you need to be in a calorie deficit. You need to prioritise protein, hydration, sleep, activity over the day and that becomes very tricky if you’re prioritising social commitments over that. Not impossible. But a lot harder.

Something has to give. We need to shift the emphasis on different areas of life be it temporarily in order to make progress in other areas. We can absolutely work social life, work commitments, family and things we love into our health and fitness journey. But it’s important to realise that how much energy we give, will impact what we get out!

We only have so much time, energy and mental capacity to give. In order to work towards a goal, we need to make conscious decisions. It doesn’t need to be an all in situation to start with (depending on your goal). It might be a case of turning the “life dials” up or down temporarily as we reallocate that energy/time.

You don’t need an all or nothing mindset or more discipline. You just need to work out how much your goal means to you and where it fits into your current lifestyle.

You don’t need all or nothing approaches
You don’t need all or nothing approaches

It’s not easy. It takes time. But it’s worth it when you start building momentum towards your goals and things that mean a lot to you!

Build that momentum, feel the growth in confidence, continue improving!
