Someone asked me a question the other day..
‘In order to lose weight, do I need to do hours of cardio?’
A lot of people have a weight loss goal. It may be be for health, aesthetics or just overall confidence. There’s a myth in the fitness 🌎 that to drop body fat or see a change on the scales, you need to spend your time sweating and hating life on the treadmill or stairs. 😓
WRONG ❌❌❌
The most important thing for any weight loss/gain goals is energy balance. For weight-loss, this means burning more calories than you take in. People add in cardio as it can be an easy, low impact way to increase overall activity.
But you don’t need to spend hours doing cardio….you just need to do some basic maths.
A diet that puts you in a calorie deficit
➕
A more active lifestyle
➕
A form of exercise/ training that you’ll stick to.
➕
Sleep & hydration
➕
Consistency

Your best chance of reaching your goals!!
A lot of people would say in order to be more active, they need to spend hours doing cardio on a treadmill. This is 100% not the case. The below all count too when it comes to upping activity levels:
- Walking & hiking
- Swimming
- Dancing
- Gardening & house chores
- Walking the dog
- Playing with your children in the garden
Reframing your mindset around movement & activity is one way to make weight-loss less daunting. It also stops you making excuses such as ‘I don’t have time’ or ‘I can’t be bothered with the gym’. Let’s be fair, we all have those days. Reframe your mindset and you’ll be multitasking, having more fun and less resentful to ‘being more active’.
