Are the scales lying to you?

One of these kettlebells weighs 16kg……the other one also weighs 16kg….But one of the kettlebells is bigger, wider, taller and has an extra ‘layer’.

Weight is an important factor when considering health and being in a healthy range or if you are following a specific programme with weight focussed goals. However it’s not the only indicator of progress. It shouldn’t be relied on totally to judge how well you’re doing.

Chances are, at some point in life you’ve gotten on a weighing scale or looked in a mirror to judge your progress.

It’s also likely that what you read on the scale, doesn’t always leave you feeling the best. For some reason, as soon as we see that number staring back at us, we immediately forget all other things that indicate progress. Really important things, such as-

1] Better sleep pattern

2] Getting stronger

3] Getting faster

4] Feeling more confident and happy

5] How our clothes fit/body composition

6] How we feel

7] Muscle mass to body fat ratio

For example, you may be sticking to your diet, smashing your programme, sleeping, hydrating, seeing great results in how your body looks but the scales aren’t moving?

Sounds familiar right? Frustrating and can be really disheartening.

HOWEVER the scales don’t account for muscle gain, body recomposition, fat loss, water retention etc. So just remember next time you stand on those scales, look down and see that little number looking back at you, that there are so many other factors to base your performance, self worth and progress on.
