Being new to anything is overwhelming. Trust me, I get it. Going into an environment where everyone else seems to know what they’re doing is SCARY. But you shouldn’t let the fear of getting started stop you.
But, let me tell you something. The people that you think are ‘totally clued up’ and ‘experts’ all started out new at some point. Half of them are also probably just as unsure about things and thinking the same as you. Humans are creatures of habit. We like comfortable. We like what we know and it’s not often we like what we don’t. There’s actually a phobia of ‘new’ - Neophobia. 🤔
Some of us don’t mind taking risks and jumping outside of our comfort zone every so often. But often, if we have the option we go to safe and known.
Same goes for diet & fitness.
-We like the foods we like.
-We avoid things we don’t (even if we know they’re good for us 👀)
-We stick to exercise routines until we get totally bored.
-We avoid hard exercises because they’re tiring.
-We don’t always challenge ourselves or know when to push harder.
Some tips if you’re thinking about taking the plunge and making a change! If these are fitness related -
-Be realistic with your self-expectations. 💜
-Don’t try to match the weights you see Mr Bodybuilder/Powerlifter lifting. You’ll hurt yourself, your ego and it’s counter productive.
-Take things steady. Slowly increase weights, speed, reps you’re doing. 🏋🏼♀️
-Don’t ego lift. Nobody is impressed. TRUST.👋🏻
-if you don’t know what you’re doing, as someone. Ideally a member of staff, PT or do some research. If you’re struggling to find reliable sources, hit me up and I can advise a tonne 🙏🏼
-Don’t immediately go buying all the gear, supplements, kit that you don’t need. Mr ‘all the gear no idea’ isn’t a cool title to win 👀
The most valuable tip I can give you though, is to enjoy the process and journey. Learn to love your new routine and habits that leave you feeling healthier, fitter and happier!
